Potassium Bromide (KBr) crystal is water-soluble, and it is easily deliquescent and cannot be chemically polished. KBr single crystal having a high transmittance and a wide pass band, and widely used as splitting prism, transmission windows and lens in infrared spectrometer, spectrophotometer and Infrared devices. The KBr substrate and windows are soft and hygroscopic.
